Incomeless students spent $57-million on Vancouver homes in past two years

:dahell:

Nine students with no apparent source of income bought $57-million worth of single-family homes in Vancouver’s tony Point Grey neighbourhood over the past two years, according to records compiled by British Columbia’s Opposition New Democrats.

The NDP said the purchases are more evidence that authorities have let the region’s housing market overheat beyond the reach of most locals.

The properties include a $31-million mansion that Canaccord Genuity founder Peter Brown sold earlier this year to a buyer whose occupation was listed on the title document as “student.”

Four of the sales to student buyers were covered by mortgages from three major banks – a fact that underscores how Canada’s banks are inflating the region’s housing market, said NDP housing critic David Eby,

Sound Reasoning
Canada's housing bubble will soon burst. The same way that bubble burst in USA several years ago. :yeshrug:

Banks are lending out inflated mortgages to people who can't afford them and on homes that don't justify the prices. Same thing was happening in the USA when anyone and everyone could get a high priced mortgage even if they didn't have the income to back it up. Once the floor fell out of the market, people couldn't hold on and the housing market crashed.

The prices are simply too inflated. My ex, who lives in Toronto, just bought a 3BD/2BA for $400K plus....and we're not talking a high income area. And I've heard the housing market is even crazier in Vancouver. Many of those condo buildings are used as investments to hide money for wealthy foreigners.

The good thing is soon homes in Canada will be bargain basement prices. The bad thing is alot of people who bought over the last few years will be majorly upside down.

I'm keeping an out for one of those overpriced, uninhabited condos in Toronto in a few years when things go bad up there :jawalrus:

Peace

was reading s article the other day, if interest rates even rise 1 percent,1 million CDNS will struggle to pay their mortgage. It's messed up.

Where I live the average house is 1.1 mill, 5 years ago it was around 500k
