False. ID4 was the most hyped movie for its time because the trailers looked insane. Will did not sell the film, the concept and the trailers had everyone creaming their pants at the time. The movie made Will a bonafide blockbuster attaction however. Not sure how old u were when it dropped.

Find me an official ID4 poster with his face and name on it. You cant because the movie was an Alien invasion flick first. Will was just perfectly cast and it changed his career hence Spielberg approaching him for Men in Black.

ID4 came out 3 years after Jurassic Park, similarly was an event film where the Dinos were the main attraction and the reason people flocked to see it. And it was bigger than ID4. People flocked to id4 see a modern day war of the worlds. Getting a career changing role for Smith was the added bonus.
