True...if ANDRE HARRELL was more comfortable with hardcore street rap they would have had more longevity

Why nikkas always lying about their age?:what:

Puff gon say he was 19 when he became vp, when he was born in '69. :comeon:
He didn't join uptown till '90, when he was 20/21

But the Jodeci segments :wow:

I think what Babyface had to say in this is the most powerful statement of the whole doc.

It was cool, doe...learned a couple things I didn't know.

LOVED the Documentary. I always a huge fan of UPTOWN, but not even I knew about ALL of their successes and influence.
Saved it on my DVR for the future. Definitely worth a 2nd and 3rd watch

Its historic that Uptown created two music genres within RnB and Rap.

1. New Jack Swing - Guy, Heavy D, Teddy Riley.
2. Hiphop Soul - Puff Daddy, Mary J Blige, Jodeci

The clips of Mary were major she came in and tore the game down

What he say

LOL, you mean you put up the doc and didn't watch it?
Puff gonna dock your pay for that...

Anyway...Andre was saying he couldn't get the money/push from MCA because
they gave them the money/push they felt was due to "urban" music.

Andre said:
"they didn't see Heavy D (even though he was doing records with Michael and Janet Jackson), Mary J, or Jodeci
as 'pop' stars"

He also said he was seeing what Arista did for LaFace (seeing Toni Braxton and TLC selling crazy units)
and didn't see why MCA/Universal wasn't giving them that kind of push. Then Babyface said something to the effect
that (as Andre and everyone else had been saying this whole doc) Uptown was trying to sell a lifestyle and
was making music to appeal to that lifestyle. At LaFace they were just trying to make hits - records that anybody
could listen to.

I think that explains how Uptown kinda crumbled. I mean, you could see it in here...dudes are saying
"if only Andre would have got down with hardcore rap..." that wasn't The Uptown Style, doe.
And the problem with styles is they come and go.
