Really makes no sense to rush new hardware out.

Most games will be cross gen for a long time to come.

Might as well wait till cost vs performance balance makes sense for consumers.

Honestly, I'm happy and hope this is true. We don't need a damn PS6 at this point. I feel like we ain't even there yet with PS5/XSX, etc. We need more games on PS5/XSX more than the next-generation console.

I feel like many people don't want to buy a PS6/New Xbox if they bring it out in 2027 or 2028 when they just recently bought a PS5 or XSX and they still feel like this system is still catchinits stride and it doesn't feel like its run its course. The price is getting ridiculous now and AI shyt, etc

Also. The jump in technology and leap wouldn't make it huge difference at all.
Probably like a 3rd+ of “Playstation gamers” are still playing on PS4.

The PS5 will be a popular device for at least the next 10-12 years.

A new console generation can wait :yeshrug:

This isn't good. People act like this is a positive are fooling themselves. As console generations go on sales decline as everyone who wanted one has mostly got them. The new consoles come in and infuse new life into the industry.

As the sales trail off and the new hardware doesn't come where is that gonna be made up at? These RAM prices are putting extreme pressure on the industry. Pushing off the newer hardware and putting pressure on the current hardware is bad.
Consoles just aren’t the industry leader anymore.

And that’s ok :manny:

Good, there is absolutely no need for Next Gen consoles, specially with Switch 2 just out and the Gabecube coming out next year.

Ps5 has been out for 5 years, and we are at a point of diminishing returns.

The next big technology is path tracing and that doesnt make games look THAT much better while tanking the frame rate.

Additionally, theyve RAISED prices on current Gen consoles which actively slows down the sales. What then is the point of releasing a new even more expensive machine after killing the momentum you had with your existing hardware by raising the price? They are just wasting money mass producing something that they wont make a profit on since new consoles are generally sold at a loss for the manufacturer.

GTA 6 isnt even out yet and when that shyt drops that is what a ton of people will get sucked into and keep playing for at least one year. The average amount of games that people buy each year has declined significantly and price is a factor behind that too. They are better off continuing to support the current gen hardware and reward developers who use innovation to get past the technical limits of the hardware. You can literally see a huge difference between an early gen ps1 game like final fantasy 7 and the 9th game or tekken 1 compared to tekken 3. The hardware didnt change, the developers just got more creative because necessity is the mother of invention.

On a macro level, you're right..longer console cycles really mean consoles will lose ground to the PC market.

On the flip side, these new 5+ year game development cycles appear to the norm now, and will be until AI in game development gets sophisticated..so even if next gen consoles launched as early as 2027, next-gen game releases wouldn't really catch up for a few years.
