a friend totaled my car. my driving record is clean other than one seat belt ticket from a few months back. should i switch insurance companies? is the other company gonna know i filed a claim with a different company if my driving record is pretty clean?

Its risky making a change before or during a claim. They WILL think youre trying to commit fraud. Work with your company until your claim is done, then switch.
no i was talking about when i get another car. i imagine AAA is gonna go up on my rates but i was thinking that since my driving record is good if i switched it wouldn't be so bad. i got 2 cars with them and the one that's not totaled is just PLPD.

Who do you have insurance with? Most companies have accident forgiveness if its the first accident.

are you going to sue the friend?
no i won't. no point in suing someone that doesn't have much to begin with.
at the end of all this i get to walk away from it with nothing lost or gained on a car that was thousands of dollars upside down on the loan. no harm done.
