Smart take by Roc Nation. Seperating him from Jay.. establishing his own fanbase and group of fans.

I think Jay had enough confidence in J Cole to say be your own man and let him develop under the label as his own artist.

In fact if you look at the entire roster they all dont need to have Jay up in the videos and shoots etc etc. And I think that's how Jay wanted it to be anyway. I think too many people confuse Roc Nation as a regular label/crew and its just not that at all but runs like an actual music label.

I mean, I just think about to Rocafella and how detached from Jay they all did not have a buzz to maintain relevance. The only ones who could were Dipset and Kanye because they all have their own individual fanbases. I'm sure that isn't lost on him.

True, but I think he wants to run that brand as an actual company with an established roster vs a crew on the come up making their own brand like Rocafella. Its telling that most of the roster has artists pre-established (and mostly not Hip Hop). The days of putting ya mans on are kinda changing.
