I have a Synology server that I add music too and I use to just download on the fly from my pixel 2. Now that I got an iPhone I always have to go through iTunes? Is there a way to download music wirelessly to my phone similar to how I was doing this on my pixel?

the files app

the song/album should download automatically in safari once you click the link and you’ll find the file in files where you can play it...it’s not really the best app for playing music tho...very bare-bones...but you can find other apps for that

I don’t stream music...I still download mp3s and don’t require much features other that play/repeat song/repeat all lol...but I use an app I paid $5 for called files HD pro...I wouldn’t recommend it tho bcuz when iOS updated to 13 the app stopped letting me download and it took months for them to update it despite all the complaints...plus it’s not really a music player app...I imagine there are much better apps folks can recommend

Depends on how complicated you want to get. I have a Subsonic music server I use in a Docker container on my server. It’s pointed to my music share. On my phone, I use a paid app called play:Sub. It allows you to stream and/or download music from your server and play it on your phone. It’s a nice looking player too so you can bypass the iOS music app completely if you like. The cool thing is you can download by artist/album as well as by individual song so you don’t have to do a bunch of clicking and saving.

Yeah you should be able to install Docker on your Synology then you can install any Docker containers you want. Docker's dope as hell. Since I made my post, I found a better music server (Navidrome) that syncs with the app I listed earlier.

I really just use my NAS as a network hard drive so I'm not that knowledgable on the networking and docker architecture, can I just use this app to download the music I have stored using Synology's OS?

Unfortunately no. You're probably better off with something like this:

How to use the Files app to connect to a network server from your iPhone or iPad

This should give you access to your Synology through the files app and allow downloading/copying to your phone. It'll be a lot more manual but it's straightforward.

I'm not sure how good you are with messing with the Synology, but there's a pretty easy way (assuming you have half an idea of what you're doing) to deal with this. Go to Package Center on your Synology and download 'Audio Station'. Go through and get it all set up. It's not complicated. Just make sure you give whatever account you're using the right privileges .

Next go download 'DS Audio' app from the iOS app store. Since you've accessed Synology on your android, I'm sure you already know what to do here. You can access and stream/download all your music on the Synology through the app this way. I do mine another way (more on that in a minute), so I don't know about now, but in the past, the app's performance was not the greatest (though I have a lot of music to be fair). I just messed with it a bit and it wasn't too bad, so maybe they've improved it since then.

Somebody above mentioned Subsonic. I've been using Subsonic for quite a long time now and I love it to death. I ran it off my desktop for the longest, then it (desktop) started acting up, so I did some looking and now I run Subsonic right off my Synology. Works great for me.

Ds audio was garbage as I too have a lot of music. How did you setup subsonic for Synology?
