this is why i have avoided owning an iphone for so long. i had a 4s back in the day and as a musician and collaborator it made things difficult. i hated having to wait until i got home to put some shyt on itunes when i could have been listening to it the whole way home. i dont know if there was an easy option back then but i do see people saying its easier now but still a run around. shyt is goofy.

Ds audio was garbage as I too have a lot of music. How did you setup subsonic for Synology?
Synology Community

Start there. That's the dude that put this together. There's a link to the github in the OP of that thread. Just download the spk and do a manual install from the package center. Then you'll have to set it up. Plenty of customizable options for you to play with.

Should tell you that Subsonic Premium is now on a subscription base ($1 a month) or $99 for lifetime membership. I was fortunate enough to buy it way back when it was like $10 or something like that. Best app for iOS is what dude mentioned above, Play:Sub. I also have iSub too that I actually use more just because. One quirk I found with both apps though, that I did not know beforehand: if you have no connection to the internet (I had turned cell data off while away from home because data was very low) the apps won't work, even for music you have cached. They just quit. Pissed me off.

Have not used subhub. iSub is VERY bare-bones and pretty ugly to be honest, but that's (bare) probably what I like about it. Play:Sub is much slicker and nicer looking, and better fleshed out as far as options. iSub has been updated only once in the past few years, and only because an iOS update broke it, and ppl were griping, so developer fixed it.

I used Play:Sub for awhile on my phone, but it started acting up. It would just quit mid-song, and I have no idea why. I thought it was my phone getting hot and the app stopping, but nothing else acted like that. So I switched back to iSub (which I've used full time on my iPad) and it's been fine. I suppose I should go back and mess with PS again and see if the issue is still there.

One thing to note with Subsonic is there are a number of different server-side implementations. And they work about the same but can be coded differently. I used to use Airsonic and it was always decent on the server side but pretty slow for scanning and updates. The new one I suggested (Navidrome) uses the Subsonic API but is built from the ground up. It’s very fast so far and I’m using it with play:Sub. I could tell the difference in scanning and update speeds immediately.

Another note to OP is the Subsonic server I mentioned (Navidrome) is 100% free. The only hurdle is you *may* only be able to install it through Docker instead of as a native app. The only cost in the whole setup is the play:Sub app.

I used to do this all the time. I literally just downloaded an album to my phone to double check. I turned off cellular, WiFi, and closed the app. When I reopened play:Sub, I went into offline mode and could still play all my downloaded (cached) music with no internet. You may have been playing songs that are partially cached and not fully downloaded. That’s the only way I could think that would cause what you’re seeing unless you mean the app itself doesn’t work.

Ok, I just checked. I still have the issue with iSub, but NOT play:Sub. I thought I had tried with the latter, but I was clearly mistaken. That's good to know, and glad you responded. I think it's time to switch up again.

As far as Navidrome, that looks interesting. It's appearance is similar to Subsonic as well. If I didn't already have Subsonic I'd give it a try for sure.

Smell like cap or you just doing something wrong. 13.1k of my songs sound crisp on my iPhone.

I have a Synology server that I add music too and I use to just download on the fly from my pixel 2. Now that I got an iPhone I always have to go through iTunes? Is there a way to download music wirelessly to my phone similar to how I was doing this on my pixel?

Set up Plex and use the app to stream from your synology.

Depends on how complicated you want to get. I have a Subsonic music server I use in a Docker container on my server. It’s pointed to my music share. On my phone, I use a paid app called play:Sub. It allows you to stream and/or download music from your server and play it on your phone. It’s a nice looking player too so you can bypass the iOS music app completely if you like. The cool thing is you can download by artist/album as well as by individual song so you don’t have to do a bunch of clicking and saving.

I'm not sure how good you are with messing with the Synology, but there's a pretty easy way (assuming you have half an idea of what you're doing) to deal with this. Go to Package Center on your Synology and download 'Audio Station'. Go through and get it all set up. It's not complicated. Just make sure you give whatever account you're using the right privileges .

Next go download 'DS Audio' app from the iOS app store. Since you've accessed Synology on your android, I'm sure you already know what to do here. You can access and stream/download all your music on the Synology through the app this way. I do mine another way (more on that in a minute), so I don't know about now, but in the past, the app's performance was not the greatest (though I have a lot of music to be fair). I just messed with it a bit and it wasn't too bad, so maybe they've improved it since then.

Somebody above mentioned Subsonic. I've been using Subsonic for quite a long time now and I love it to death. I ran it off my desktop for the longest, then it (desktop) started acting up, so I did some looking and now I run Subsonic right off my Synology. Works great for me.

any of those apps work with carplay?
