I am thinking about going back to school, I stopped going 2 years ago after I realized I did not want to be a physical therapist, and I wanted to help out more with my family. But now I have been thinking about going out and the only major that I feel like I will enjoy that is worth a shyt is an Accounting degree. I took accounting my sophmore year in college and I enjoyed it, I'm not particularly good in conventional math but "money math" is so damn :feedme:

Yes. Easily. Accounting or Finance is better than Business. Accounting jobs are always in high demand. Get you an internship near the end so that when you finish you can land a Staff Accountant position. Otherwise you may be stuck on entry level stuff like Accounts Payable or Accounts Receivable. Those jobs suck.

As a former accounting major... Yes, it CAN be a good major. There are generally plenty of accounting related jobs out there. What I'd suggest though is to definitely do more than just the school. Go to the conferences that they offer. There's one in particular that they did every year in atlanta where students actually got placed for jobs out of college and summer internships for those still in college. Those conferences are also how you get yourself in with the big 4 if you're not going to a top shelf business/accounting school.

Another option is going into accounting information systems. Considering most of the accounting you'd be doing in real world situations will be done in software (and not the manual calculations you'll be learning) we were told that understanding the technology aspect of accounting would be valuable in the workforce.

The finance sector is is 9% of GDP, so basically 1 dollar in every ten that is in this country is made in the finance industry a lot of which is accounting.

Every business big or small these days needs two people: A bookeeper (accountant) and a computer guy.

Yeah, it's a legit major. Business management is the equivalent of poop on a stick.
Pass the CPA exam plus having a bachelor's degree will get you out of that 2004 Honda Civic LX and move you into a 2015 Honda Civic EX. :blessed:

You're salary potential gonna be higher with a Finance degree but Accounting is good especially if as you say the advanced math (not that finance is so advanced) is not natural for you.

Get that CPA do a few years at a Big 4, try not to kill yourself, get a staff job at a big company or a shared service center and only work like two wks a month. :obama:

I could never do it I'd hang myself in the closet of the Holiday Inn that KPMG would force me to live in for 300 days/yr in that first yr out of school. The audit shyts too boring and your hourly ends up sucking because your in the office all day. :snoop:

Now that I think about it fukk this wage slavery route - get the degree and CPA then build a book of small businesses that you do the books for. Dudes running construction or landscaping businesses need that shyt heavy if youre good at networking you can be banking pretty quick and also working with small businesses in your community keeping them safe from Unkkkle Sam in the IRS. :smugdraper:

do accounting and get over 3.0
This.
Especially if you're Black, you should be able to get a Big 4 internship by sophomore year, and a local accounting form internship the summer after your freshmen year.
Get into your school's Accounting Club, set up a Linkedin, and start working on your resume.
The classes aren't nearly as difficult as other number-heavy majors like mathematics or engineering, so you shouldn't have any trouble keeping up, the textbooks are a little pricey but its all worth it in the end.
Most schools will help you out with CPA certification, the exam is a little difficult, but with the proper preparation you shouldn't have any trouble.
Good luck :salute:

it's pretty much a guaranteed job, it's pretty unlikely that you end up unemployed. the only really hard thing is the CPA, but if you put in work it's very doable.
