If they want to stay relevant they need to pick up that pen like George Lucas and create their own IP.
I'm glad the era of actors being their own franchise is over. The Rock's acting career is an example of why we don't miss it. Thats what happens when you make movies about the star rather than the IP.
Anybody cosigning Mackie here is basically saying, they prefer more movies like Red Notice to be made instead of blockbuster movies Like Star Wars.

Just wait until AI can seamlessly produce not only actors, but movies, storylines, and craft the scenes. The "movie star" will be a thing of the past. You'll only have social media "celebrities" and athletes.

How many actors/actresses have they tried to push as the next big thing these past few years who flopped? The road is littered with them.
How many actors can open a movie big just on their name these days? I'm talking 100+ million opening weekend with no IP attached.
Those days are gone.
The scary thing is now even big IP movies are struggling.
Too many options and a weak product.

Yep. Movie studios will be filled with "prompt engineers" and they'll put 3 or 4 of them on a movie at a time and just churn out movies. They may have a director or cinematographer in there to iron out some of the wrinkles with camera placement and lighting and fine tune some dialog. They make trash moves too. Mummy was Trash, Bright was Trash, Bruce willis last few movies were trash (not his fault tho) Gladiator 2 was mid, Stallone went full maga and Expendables was 10 years too late.

Rather a movie be good regardless, but peak for peak, I prefer Empire Strikes back over Bad Boys 2. Or Avengers Infinity over Mission Impossible.

There's definitely youtubers that have made videos on the topic but a lot of it has to do with the kinda movies being made today. Action is beating Drama at to Box Office. You rarely saw DeNiro or Pacino dodging explosions or fighting robots and shyt
Those were just two examples. My point was i like those big franchise IPs better than a star driven action flick.

Moreover i gave those examples specifically of peak movies on both side and how the peaks of ips were higher imo.
More examples beyond comics or starwars. I would rather watch Jurassic park than Rocky. I would rather watch Back to the Future than Top Gun.
To me these IPs are major for a reason, The world building is more interesting than just Seeing Tom Cruise run away from explosions for the 16th time.
