Is anybody else shocked that the Wolves aren't winning with Thibs?

I haven't watched them enough to comment in full detail but from an outside perspective I wonder if Thibs is having a hard time connecting to these young players. His message is much easier received when his team is winning, so I would imagine at this point the players could be tuning him out a bit because he drives players so hard, and I'm not talking about minutes played. He sucks the fun out of playing a bit, when your winning it's not something you can really fight, but when you're a bottom feeder I'm sure it wears on players, especially young players

Also, his offensive system is still basic and lacks creativity. I thought he would have hit the lab after his league wide coaching tour and implemented some fresh ideas, but I don't see it.

It's also pretty clear that the Wolves don't have a grasp of his pick and roll defense yet. They lack recognition and communication, but they are a young team so maybe that should have been expected

I was dead wrong about this teams turnaround, I thought they would be like a 4/5 seed

It's very disappointing they aren't even competing for that 8th spot, which is slotted to the Kings with a below .500 record now. Yes they are young, but they should at least be competing for that easily attainable 8th seed IMO

There's quite a few issues. They may have the worst bench in the league.

Wiggins and Zach don't play defense. Zach seems lost a lot. Wiggins never gets into a stance and also they aren't physically strong yet. They still look like rookies physically.

KAT has regressed on defense and is playing hero ball along with Wiggins.

to go from 29 wins to 50+ is unrealistic expectations imo. i expected them to finish around mid 30s in wins but it might be a reach for them at this point.

the wolves are just bad on defense, can't shoot and they have no play makers. wiggins is talented but can't create for others. he's like demar derozan, good player who can get his points but have no effect on other players if that makes sense. towns not taking a bigger leap is surprising too. thibs should just bench rubio and roll with dunn from here on out. give him experience and a chance to develop now because rubio shouldn't be in their long term plans.

Bulls took a 21 win increase in Thibs first season tbf, so there is a precedent there, but yeah I agree with you about it being too optimistic

I'm not, I called it early. Thibs was never THAT great to me. He's good, but for a team of young players with low motors, he's not a great fit. He gives me that Byron Scott feel with young players; just doesn't know how to approach the new school player. He's better with vets who take to his approach or are professional enough to deal with it.

Rubio is terrible; they won't go anywhere until he's gone.

Wiggins has low intangibles, not a high motor. Still has time though. KAT is good but I don't know if Thibs is the coach to take him to that level of greatness every night. Lavine is starting to reach his potential which is a good sign but it could be in spite of like he was doing with Sam Mitchell. Maybe it'll click but I doubt it :sas1: back to the lottery

@Brozay @CHICAGO

Thibs was winning with some really depleted rosters in Chicago. This minny squad is one of the most talented teams he's had.

I mean in the long run this is good, cuz Minny gets another chance at a top prospect.

What's the deal?
This thought process is why alot of teams never get better

he needs a Joakim Noah 2.0
I like Dieng...the problem is overall team defense. It also doesn't help Wiggins hasnt lived up to the hype along with KAT allowing last season to hype himself up. There is zero excuse for his ball stopping consistently & playing further away from the basket.

This is what I'm hoping Embiid doesn't fall into

Unrelated but thunder went from lile 26 wins to 50 as well iirc in one of the toughest conferences in the last 2 decades. Just goes to show what they wasted there. :wow:
