Facebook owns Oculus Rift, we're past the point of them being "geek gadgets" now when NFL/NBA teams are adopting the technology and will be offering viewing of games in the near future. This isn't just for games anymore, there are movies coming out being filmed in 360 degrees so you essentially feel like you're there, and there are already programs that simulate a movie theater.....

To the person wearing it, the screen looks like it's 20 feet tall.

Meh. Ive been doing some research on the oculus rift for my university and i agree, virtual reality will be here, but its still limited by todays GPU tech and Resolution not to mention lens te h (field of view). They say to achieve HD quality for VR headsets, theyd need to have 12k mobile panels as hthe fresnel lenses stretches the screen to cover your view so youll get a screen door effect. Also it has to be OLED and RGB not pentile. Recently Samsung has started researching 11k panels for VR shich they hope to bring to the market after 2018. So your looking at 5 years for decent VR. Also as you understand, this will also increase the load on the GPU/CPU so youre going to have to wait for another 2 or 3 generations of GPUS, perhaps 7nm tech. Weve got a long way to go for polished VR.
