I know a few folks self employed doing a few hustles.

They like it cause of flexibility of schedule.

I think it work both ways it can be good and bad.

But what y'all think

9-5 is easier but I wouldn’t say better. It also depends on your position and what you do (this applies to the self-employed as well).

Working for yourself and having employees, is also a lot different than not having employees.

I would choose being self-employed over a 9-5, just for the simple fact that I can leave it to someone close when I die.

Had my own business at one point.
Had to shut it down.
There's ZERO downtime.
You're working damn near 24-7....
If it ain't being on a site...it's fielding phonecalls all time of night/day.
Literally was burned out after 6 months and went back to merc work.
Easy compared to running your own business...

This. It’s flexible on some weeks. Other weeks your working 10-12 hour days everyday.

If it works for you.
Personally, I have a family...so I can't be gone all the time like the business required.
So I had to shut it down.
Funny thing is that the wife was the one that encouraged me to start it up and get that money...then, just like a female, complained every damn day when I was doing what she encouraged me to do.
:comeon:
Then complained when we went back to regular levels of income.
:martin:

But best believe, if the wife ever divorces me or gives me a reason to ditch her....
I'm gonna be all about my business again and raking in that dough and living the good and FREE life.

Depends.

Some people like going off the clock and not having to think about work until the next day.
That is not a reality if you run your own business.

However some people like not having to live by a clock and working when and how much they want.
That is not a reality (most of the time) if you have a boss

There are different ways to be self employed tho, you can also string 2-3 hustles together to stay afloat on your own. I have no aspirations of a brick and mortar store or to be employing anything more than 2 people one day ever. All my stuff revolves around selling and renting stuff basically, I can do that solo. My whole entire existence is predicated on working smarter and not harder. I really couldn't get a good paying job now anyway, but back when I could and I did, I realized quick, fast and in a hurry that that shyt wasn't for me. I'm self aware enough to realize that I would be the breh getting fired or laid off every 2-3 years, having to start over every 36 months. I don't take direction well and I can't really fake the funk around white people, and they can peep that, so I don't even try. If I put in 12 hour days I would probably be a lot more paid, but I don't. I do grind 7 days a week, but it's just a few hours a day. In my eyes if I can make what I would make at a regular 9-5 on my own, I'm good.

Depends what kind of person you are

If you a "how high" jumping ass overachiever then the 9-5 corporate life is gonna be hard on you as your manager works you hard as possible and you never use your PTO. Better to overachieve for yourself than your boss taking credit.for your work.

On the other hand if you blow loud all day and only work when you have to (aka if you a real one :myman::troll:) then the security and structure might be beneficial. You just gotta show up on time and not kill your boss and you will be making rent and the weekend is yours.

But tbh you could make the opposite argument in each of these cases :ehh:
