I recall that he underwent surgery on a partially torn rotator cuff yesterday, so he'll have to rehab a bit.

Found a link. They say he won't be able to throw for 12-16 weeks, so I doubt for the year. :ld:

Surgery goes well for Panthers QB Newton

Let the neg train commence though if he IS out for the year and you didn't post a link or a tweet.

:what: just turned on & heard on dan lebartard
Rotator surgery is the death nail for many pitchers so they don't even bother getting surgery and just retire

I would be surprised if he plays at all next year, best case is week 12

Rotator surgery ain't no joke, your arm is immobilized for 3 fuking months

Cam Newton may not be healed by season opener

According to a sports medicine professional it could take a full year for Newton’s shoulder to be healed 100%.

According to the Sports Medicine Analytical Research Team (SMART) and InStreetClothes.com that analyzes data on player injuries, the 2015 NFL MVP may not have 100 percent arm strength or be ready to immediately perform at the level he was at before the injury in time for the opener.

In a study of 51 NFL players who suffered full-thickness rotator cuff tears, 43 percent were offensive linemen, 27 percent linebackers, 12 percent defensive backs and 10 percent defensive linemen. Of those players, 90 percent had surgery to repair the tear. Of those, 93 percent returned to competition in an average of 21 weeks and 77 percent were able to perform at their pre-injury level within two seasons.

Two seasons! OMG freak out! Do we want him starting the 2017 season at less than 100%? I doubt it. Okay it’s not all bad. The odds are that he should be fully healed by the end of the 2017 season.

Research shows there could be a decline in arm strength for a season or two and that Newton may have to be on a so-called pitch count at least early in 2017.

Because the NFL season is so long, SMART research indicates Newton likely will be better toward the end of the season than the beginning.

The good news for Newton is research also shows the success rate of rotator cuff surgery is high, that typically when this injury is repaired it lasts for the remainder of the athlete's career.

Just in time for the playoffs right! So the good news is that it most likely won’t be a lingering issue for Newton once he recovers. The only question is what condition will his shoulder be in come training camp and then the season. I can’t imagine the Panthers would rush him back before being sure he is healthy. Well that sure throws a wet blanket on the 2017 season prospects, for me anyway.

:yeshrug: dan & stu on that exaggeration shyt
