Is ESPN racist for allowing Will Cain on TV after all this time?

im not a fan of Cain. Political views aside, he can come off as TOO contrarian (but not to the Whitlock extent). And he has a hate boner for Lebron so his Lebron takes tend to suck.

However I agree with this sentiment about Trump and racism.

Labeling these tweets as racist is pointless. Trump punches down to any and everyone and he doesnt exclusively call Black people stupid. It may be his favorite insult for Blacks, but he's never used the term only in reference to Black people.

If a huge part of your argument to prove Trump is racist hinges on his Tweets calling Black Politicians/Entertainers/Athletes stupid, it'd be a weak argument honestly.

Now, you and I both know that there is a historical pattern of White Supremacists diminishing the intellect of Blacks.

However, injecting this as a basis for your argument is injecting vague ideas that cannot be measured or quantified or verified. The problem is that racism is a continuum of ideas and beliefs, not contingent on an absolute idea. The behaviors supporting or practicing racism vary from person to person, vary in social setting, vary by the day, the hour even.

This is Wills point about how acknowledging racism is becoming a dulled knife.

While racism is probably a huge motivating factor in CaC fukkery, the fact it can rarely be exclusively proven weakens the accusation. And when you start supporting your argument with Socio-economic theory, you've already lost. A good portion of this country doesn't even think racism exists. Hoping these same people see vague and contextual cues as indicators of racism is futile.

Ive seen this argument stated before...Youll never be able to prove the racism. So instead prove and criticize the immoral/unprofessional/incorrect behavior.

Acknowledging racism is becoming dull because the Will Cains of the world refute anything racist, so its dull to them, not me. You will always hear them say there is racism in the world but will never point to a singular case of it. This is what they do, acknowledge racism but not racists. Its why they never start the conversation, you have to bring it to them and then they deny, deny, deny as long as there is a .00001 percent chance it could be something else. Why wouldnt Will do research presenting all of the discriminatory actions 45 has taken with his properties? What about Central Park 5? What about "I have a problem because I have blacks counting my money, I want guys with yarmulkes". Why wouldnt these things be researched by Will? Its because he doesnt want it to be true. Its what he doesnt want to see. Its because Will Cain wants to continue to happily support a racist.
You cant just ignore it or label it as "immoral/unprofessional/incorrect behavior." Thats where racists want the conversation to go, and thats weak as hell. There are no laws against "immoral/unprofessional/incorrect behavior". If our ancestors caved and did that we still wouldnt have rights.

And you're not wrong at all breh.

The problem is thats how the majority of Non Black People (the ones who need to be convinced) see the world.

I disagree to an extent though. With regards to the civil rights movement, in particular the Montgomery Bus Boycott, the issue was the unfair/immoral seating segregation of the Montgomery Busing System. The objective wasn't to prove that racism was the motivation (lol it was obvious and cacs weren't gonna backdown from it anyway), but highlight that it was bullshyt that tax paying citizens were not being granted equal protections outlined in the Constitution.

Proving racism is futile. As you said, Cacs will downplay the racism in any act anyway.

And even if you could prove racism, then what? Its not a crime to be racist. And public shaming is only contingent on the general public giving a shyt. In TYoOL 2018, I do not trust the general public to give a shyt.

Theres an adage I heard in relation to managing lazy employees. Its "take away the excuses". As a manager, I cant force you to come to work and care, but what I can do is take away the excuses for you not to do your job. I can make sure you have all the tools, instruction and assistance to complete a job.

I feel MOSTLY the same way about institutional racism, especially police brutality....I cant prove cops are racist and cant force them to NOT be, but as a society we should push to limit Polices ability to abuse their power in harmful/lethal ways and demand increased transparency + community outreach. That way you take away the excuses racist cops have to be pieces of shyt.

I'm not crazy about Will Cain, but I feel like he's a very necessary evil. :ld:

He embodies the conservative elements of a Skip Bayless except he's younger (in his 40's) and gives you a better look at the modern right-wing male's perspective on sports and how their minds work. :

Feels important in this political/social climate and doubly important for a sports debate show that often veers into that sociopolitical lane. :ehh:

As a fan of debate & discussion, I don't mind him...

...especially when he gets sonned by Max & SAS. :sas2:

He's a suspected white supremacist. I remember ESPN had him fill in for Bomani Jones' radio when Bomani went on vacation and it got so bad, Bomani had to call into his own show to check him:mjlol:
