im not a fan of Cain. Political views aside, he can come off as TOO contrarian (but not to the Whitlock extent). And he has a hate boner for Lebron so his Lebron takes tend to suck.
However I agree with this sentiment about Trump and racism.
Labeling these tweets as racist is pointless. Trump punches down to any and everyone and he doesnt exclusively call Black people stupid. It may be his favorite insult for Blacks, but he's never used the term only in reference to Black people.
If a huge part of your argument to prove Trump is racist hinges on his Tweets calling Black Politicians/Entertainers/Athletes stupid, it'd be a weak argument honestly.
Now, you and I both know that there is a historical pattern of White Supremacists diminishing the intellect of Blacks.
However, injecting this as a basis for your argument is injecting vague ideas that cannot be measured or quantified or verified. The problem is that racism is a continuum of ideas and beliefs, not contingent on an absolute idea. The behaviors supporting or practicing racism vary from person to person, vary in social setting, vary by the day, the hour even.
This is Wills point about how acknowledging racism is becoming a dulled knife.
While racism is probably a huge motivating factor in CaC fukkery, the fact it can rarely be exclusively proven weakens the accusation. And when you start supporting your argument with Socio-economic theory, you've already lost. A good portion of this country doesn't even think racism exists. Hoping these same people see vague and contextual cues as indicators of racism is futile.
Ive seen this argument stated before...Youll never be able to prove the racism. So instead prove and criticize the immoral/unprofessional/incorrect behavior.
