Once you get over the nice weather( which most of the US has 75% of the year) you realize California is an overrated state with far too many people and offers no more than anywhere except middle America

Yeah I'm a student and I moved from Oakland to Miami. There's good and bad things about it, I'm undecided if I want to move back or not.

If California got its finances together it would be unbeatable.

unless you single with decent income or have a family above the median income you're wasting your time living in california

from oakland also. and those links seem to have a right-wing agenda behind them, although i can't front on taxes being a big reason i'm considering not moving back to california. i love that state, it offers a lot of what i'm looking for, but it truly is getting too expensive to live in the desirable parts of the state. there is also a lack of a sizable young black professional crowd which is disheartening, i'm all down for hanging with any and everyone, but at the same time, i do like to see people who look like me moving up in the world. lastly, the tech industry is very incestuous and exclusive, the few that make it in are seriously driving up the prices in the bay and making it hard to live a reasonable commute from the job centers in the bay. i say the COL is a lower in SoCal, but that LA LA land shyt aint for me.

my family is there and a lot of my friends, but taxes and weighing what i could get for my money elsewhere really have me thinking. i'm giving myself about 2-3 years to decide whether i go back. if i don't, i think i'm heading back to the east coast or going to try texas...i'm not feeling chicago for the long term

I agree completely. I moved to Florida and I was surprised at actually seeing black communities, I feel like black people are so spread out in the bay area and where I live it's more concetrated which is nice to see. But on the other hand I love the diversity and liberalness in California and would love to raise a family there but it is getting so expensive, I've been trying to convince my fam to move to the DMV but they won't budge. If my moneys right when I graduate I'd move back but right now I think I'll end up in DC after I graduate
