Is Half-Life the most successful series to be killed off for no good reason?

Half-Life Episode 3 or 3 in general would sell like crazy but Valve isn't going to make it. Not because it wouldn't be successful but because they simply refuse to. It's a baffling situation. Normally a series flops its way into death. Half-Life did the opposite.

This is clearly a thing where the developer is afraid they can't live up to the hype of the fans and because they don't need to make it to keep the lights on they aren't going to.

keep hope alive :sadcam:

the radio silence is wack. I don't want to sound like an "entitled gamer", but I do feel we're at least owed an explanation

kinda wack the press don't put pressure on Valve either. sure they might assume it's never happening, but again there should at least be an explanation of wtf happened

Legal issues are a pretty good reason to end things there. They were basically using the players without using their names and it came back to bite them. What's the point in them making NCAA games with totally fake rosters not based on anybody? As it stands now sports games are typically annual roster updates with minor added features. NCAA titles wouldn't even need annual roster updates anymore. The alternative is paying all those players.

Its been almost 10 years since they made a game in the series. It's dead. The game hasn't been in development hell for that span either from the looks of it. The developer won't even truthfully answer fans questions on it anymore. in the last AMA Gabe straight up trolled the fans that asked questions about it.

that's why the shyt is insulting. they act like fans are out of line, but they promised 3 episodes, and we only got 2. shyt basically ended on a cliff-hanger. and then we get no explanation. only shyt like this...

I doubt the game is in active development and likely hasn't been for ages. You're right the fans deserve at least an explanation.

Yea, and it's a shame as a an of the game for 17+ years and all the other fans out there, there deserves to be a close to the story.

Valve cant seem to count to three apparently.

Half Life

Left 4 Dead

Portal

Team Fortress

All just left hanging for no real reason.

As far as Half Life is concerned, the sad thing is even if they made 3, it's gonna have to make the biggest splash in gaming history.

I think at this point with Half-Life there is a better chance of a complete reboot of the series.

Also, many consider episode 1 and 2 as "Part 3" anyway.

They know it wouldn't though. I personally believe the reason they haven't came out with a new one is because gamers have mostly moved on from the kind of game Half Life is. It's an old school singleplayer FPS with outdated mechanics and shyt, it doesn't have a tacked on multiplayer with deathmatch or anything crazy like that. The game would probably would flop because it's not the kind of game that people play anymore. It's like when Duke Nukem Forever dropped, people said the game sucked because it wasn't this revolutionary game, but it was always going to be a classic style Duke Nukem game at it's core with a few features thrown in to make it feel more modern.

Valve usually will find a way to make an IP that feels fresh and new, other games bite and run it to the ground, and then Valve moves on to the next game.

That's the reason.

Each game brought something new and the sequel improved it. The third one will have to be something incredible.

I originally thought half-life 3 would be a VR title but VR didn't take off.

It's been so long that a sequel now would never live up to the hype

:dwillhuh: Half Life had an amazing multiplayer and it spawned expansions/mods such as Counter Strike, what are you talking about ?

Counter Strike wasn't originally a stand alone game :heh: Thats how dope Half Life multiplayer was :wow:

Ironically, Death Match mode was huge for Multiplayer Half-Life, so im not following what this post is about at all..
