Real talk: Is it a coincidence that Haiti was the First Nation in the "new world" to have its independence but look at it today and see it's the poorest?

You think the world powers had it out for Haiti to suffer from such a long time ago or is it just a thing of bad political leaders?

The international community started boycotting Haiti in 1804. In 1838, Haiti was desperate to make up with the french and agreed to pay former french slave owners reparations... this led to Haiti acquiring a debt that would wreck the country's economy for a long time and was only paid off in the XX century.

Then Haiti was occupied by the US from 1915 to 1934... and afterwards pretty much economically dominated by the US too, post World War II.

BUT. Haitian governments played a strong role in the country's ruin too... they did a bunch of shyt like slave-like labor systems in the early republic, the elite hogged all the wealth and fukked over the poor, they used human rights violations as a tool of oppression and plus the government is generally suuuper corrupt.

Nope.

Its an old story breh. Haiti gave no f***ks and ate colonist alive and they didn;t want to see that repeated anywhere else. Haiti also had lots of natural resources depleted. Don't believe the hype from those who do not know about Haiti history either. The country was the beacon in the Caribbean for a long time. Haiti sent soldiers to Latin American,USA. Teachers to Africa. Its no surprise that Haitians hold a lot of first in world history.

pretty much.

at the end of the day, i can't even blame white people/The Man/superpowers (whatever you want to call it) in the big scheme of things because they were doing what they are suppose to do. in war, your enemy is SUPPOSE to keep it's foot on your neck. and you're suppose to expect it. you're suppose to either flex on the opposition or outsmart it.

no it's not a coincidence

there's been a long systematic attack on haiti from all levels and not just by the french by America too...

If you really read the history of Haiti and not just the little blurbs you find here and there you'll see that everyone conspired against Haiti and/or used it as a pawn.

Fearful of the influence of the slaves' revolution, President Thomas Jefferson refused to recognize the new republic, as did most European nations. The US did not officially recognize Haiti for decades until after the American Civil War. Its new government was not supported by other republics.

Came to post this. Haiti was sabotaged by Europeans from jump. Hopefully one day Haiti will be able to get back its former glory.

Breh even Polish people came all the way to Haiti to join and fight Dessalines invited them and told them if they were living in Haiti that made them Haitian. There's a lot of Haitian history that is generally excluded from a lot of texts and resources on the net.. shyt is sad.
