Is it a good idea to buy a 4K tv right now?

What do y'all think about the Samsung curved 4K tvs?

I have the 55JS9000 curved 4K from Samsung and I love it. I don't even notice the curve anymore. It's last year's model though and like a dummy I got it when it was new so I paid $1000 more than what they're going for now. I'd recommend it if you have $1600 or so to spend on a TV. It also has a full one connect box so other than the panel the TV itself is fully upgradable. Also all the ports are HDMI 2 HDCP 2.2. On those Vizios usually only one port is.

Vizio has been a respectable brand for years now. The P series are among the best mid tier TVs available for 4K. Vizio doesn't really cut corners on the quality they more or less cut corners on the features. You might not get stuff like a TV turner or 3D but you'll get solid picture quality. One thing to note is any Vizio under 55in is a 60Hz set though. Also their 55in models are all usually IPS panels that have inferior black levels. Their best TVs are 60+ in.

I'm thinking about getting a big screen 1080p from Costco instead

last tv I bought was a 59" 1080p for this very reason. it was replacing a tv I broke by dropping it off my fireplace in my front room, and thats not an area where we watch a lot of tv unless guest come over. thus I didn't see any reason to get a 4K.

now the tv where I be at is in the basement. and when the current google tv I got now craps out, I'll replace it with 4K. but I'm not goin out of my way to get one. 1080p still isn't the standard for what I'm getting on cable.
