Yes it's a thing. I always make sure my purse is off the floor even at home. It's always either on a chair or a table.
My wife does the same thing. Her purse never touches the floor anywhere, not even in our home.

The thing is that some women are walking around with bookbags and big shopping bag type of purses.
As a man, I'd put a backpack or beachbag on the floor. Yet women gotta lug this shyt around or have it take up half the loveseat cause it can't touch the floor
