Is it just me, or is arguing almost pointless?

Think about it. When you see two people goin back n forth, how often do you see at least one of them change their opinion? Or see one of them learn something? shyt's rare.

Now I ain't gon lie, I'm guilty of arguing like everyone else, but really in the long run, the shyt seems useless. Well.....not useless, I've seen some really good debates, and good can come from it but these days with so many trolls and the fact that most folks are stuck in their ways/opinions and get damn offended if you challenge them, it's best not to even bother.

I enjoy debates. They help to expand the knowledge base, and often, helps change your opinion on things.

An argument, however, implies emotion, which means mofos are going to argue because its easier to do than to try to lay hands. I won't ever bother arguing with anyone.
In fact, I passed over what seemed like a promising relationship because the chick was argumentative. Arguments are useless, I leave that to sensitive dudes and irrational
women.

I hate arguing
I was arguing with my college roommate about toddlers and tiaras and she lived off that shyt. I told her I hate arguing because it's fukking pointless and the other person is not seeing nor gives a fukk about your pov. She said arguing was fun for her. fukking crazy

Plus people know I'm right most of the time so no point in arguing, and I don't even say I told you so

People aren't mature enough to "argue". When they realize they're wrong :russ: their pride won't let them turn back

When I argue, I try to go into it knowing that what I am about to say will hit them later on. Epiphanies are had in one's solitude, so I don't expect them to connect the dots on the fly, especially if there is an audience. So I just kind of make it seem like I'm accepting their statements then I'll give my piece and hope that later on they will realize what I said was deeper than what they were going for.

little aside here: I am going to law school and that kind of stems from me being a decent arguer. I have seen many people who don't know tf they're talking about go in circles for hours. I've mediated some of my friends arguments too. Kinda stressful but funny for me when I don't really have to take a side.

For real man, I don't understand how a person could like arguing. Good point about the difference between debates and arguments.

Yeah pride's a big part of it. And also, change. If someone's lived their entire life feeling and thinking a certain way, and then you challenge it, there's always gonna be a problem.

nope u right...

Iv'e realized 95% of people have already made up their mind prior to the argument.
OP got it figured out, if you've met a person that you can participate in an actual debate with, not an argument of back and forth to appease someone's ego, then you've got something special be it a friendship or relationship. I've met no women like that, and 2 men like that. One is my father and the other is my best friend.

:smugbiden:Exactly. I go into damn near everything open minded, cause it never hurts to learn or see something new.

Mugs out here asking questions about shyt and get upset when you don't agree. Don't get me started on people asking me if I believe in God
then doing the fukking most to try to tell me I am wrong.

I think a lot of people do that, especially here. But sometimes dudes confuse it with attacking an illogical argument. If I ask you why you believe in God (presumably one of the abrahamic ones) and you give a weak answer, I'm going to attack it and tell you why you're wrong.

:ohhh:

I've never tried that, but that's some advanced thinking on your part.

I get you, but 99% of the time, the real answer is indoctrination. As a kid, we didn't "Seek out God." Nope, my ass was dragged to church.
You tell a kid that his father was an astronaut, if you say it long enough, he will "believe" it. Belief is a funny thing.
