More latin countries pretty much drowned out other styles but still won’t admit reggaes influence..

Or do they?

To be fair if I’m remembering correctly it was conveyed when reggaeton hit The States it was a combination of hip hop, reggae, bachata etc

Reggae artists are still putting out good music. You just need to know who to look out for :manny:

My Pops Forever RIP
there was always a wave that would come through of bangers and every once in a while it became national.

It's dry on the reggae tip but it's also dry when it comes to rap from a singles perspective.

Just a dry ass summer for the most part.

But the rise of reggaeton has nothing to do with why dancehall fell off a cliff.

Dancehall did fall off. The introduction of Afrobeats and to lesser extent Amapiano might be the nail in the coffin
But at the same time if you didn't know about Vybz Cartel, Popcaan, Movado, or Chronixx the last 20 yrs you probably not really a reggae fan like that.

alkaline, squash and busy signal are some current dudes i listen to

That’s because nowadays is pure gunman ting.

Your music not going to make it past your block if all you sing about is drilling.

Trinibad I’m looking at you.

Reggae and dancehall are definitely different

But dancehall fell wayyyyyyyyyyyyy off and it’s 1000% the artists fault. Can’t even blame reggaeton when dancehall was a trillion percent more advanced.

Once we got into that “daggering” era and artists damn near emulating that trap vibe, it was over. And folks don’t want to admit this but that prime Kartel era didn’t help either even though people treat him like he’s everyone’s favorite uncle now.

I was in Miami when it was becoming a thing but don’t remember it ever being seen that way.

It has grown on me since then and the music is good as it’s developed. I just remember thinking it was all using the same reggae beat at the time.
