Is it possible for electricity to go out permanently?

Electricity is a byproduct of the interactions between the fundamental forces of the universe. Physics would need to change for this to happen.

And EMPs just fry/short electricity equipment. If an area is hit by an EMP, just replace the equipment. The only reasonable way an EMP would effect us on a global scale is if it were a solar flare/wind that was bombarding the Earth. It would need to constant....and that happens, life on Earth is fukked. Solar radiation is deadly.

No, as long as their are electrons you're good...and like the other poster said, matter can't be destroyed or created.

Also Its blurry but before semiconductors we used tubes and EMPs can't destroy them because I believe their glass or something.

It is like asking if water can go away for good. The answer is no. Too many people know how harness it.

There might be supply and distribution issues but it is not going to disappear for good.

Not gonna lie, I randomly worry about that shyt. I can survive without internet I think, but no electricity....I don't know wtf I'd do....

I heard about those "EMPs" and I'm not sure how credible the threat is but that shyt is almost as scary as a nuke IMO.
Life hack for you. If there is ever a disaster or war or an EMP going off, run your ass straight to your nearest college. They can get services up and running in less than a day for their local area.

They stockpile insane amounts of food and knowledge. Also keep in mind that the people who designed the electricity grid and keep it running are also working at those universities.

I envision a disaster where people in the downtown areas are running around like chickens with their heads cut off, but the chemical, electrical, computer, and mechanical engineering departments at all the major universities are still up and running.

Only military bases would beat out colleges in recovery after an EMP

An EMP believe it or not doesn't effect all electronics equally. Obstructions and inadvertent Faraday cages (like a metallic desk or a mountain for instance) would protect some electronics. Someone already posted the Carrington Event.

As my guy Tommy Lee Jones said in MIB...

There's always an Arquillian Battle Cruiser, or a Corillian Death Ray, or an intergalactic plague that is about to wipe out all life on this miserable little planet, and the only way these people can get on with their happy lives is that they DO NOT KNOW ABOUT IT!

Fortunately, society devastating events only occur every couple hundred to every couple thousand years. You can't keep compounding your mind with all the crazy shyt that can happen. You'll end up like Woody Harrelson in 2012. Just prepare for the worst, and if it's your time it's your time.

The grid going down wouldn't by itself be the end of society, if people remained civil, you could probably build things up from an 1850's level society to a 1950's level society back within a generation. Problem is, we probably wouldn't remain civil.
