It’s not really right or wrong. Depends on preferences and finances.

They may enjoy getting a new car every three years and don’t mind spending the money continuously to do so.

I purchase new and drive for about 10 years.

Others buy used…

Ultimately a lot of this is not right or wrong..as long as your finances are straight and you are happy…who cares?

Depends on what car because I have been told to never do a downpayment. It defeats the purpose of leasing, but :yeshrug:

I prefer leasing because I want the newest model.

I consider myself a smart person, a financially savvy person, as well as a car person.

I would only lease a car as a 2nd vehicle, and only if I already had a car that's paid off.

If you do lease a car, make sure you do no money down (no cap cost reduction is what it's called at the dealership) and multiple security deposits to buy down the interest rate (called money factor at the dealership).

Also, with the way that used cars are holding their value now, it's possible to come out of a lease way ahead of the diminished value amount agreed upon at lease inception. That means you could (theoretically) buy the car at the end of the lease for less than it's worth, and sell it at market value.

If you want a new car every few years and you want to keep your payments down, leasing is a good idea. As a lot of people are permanently working from home but still need a car to get around on the weekends, leasing a car doesn’t sound half bad.

If you never want to actually own a car and drive the latest car every few years then go for it. I did a lease once, never again.
