Nas says that he still "got love" for his ex-wife Kelis, following an ugly custody battle between the two.

The pair separated in 2009, and more recently, Kelis revealed that she was allegedly physically abused by the legendary rapper. But Nas is hopeful for the future.

"I've been through a whole lot, and no one really gave me advice on how to deal with what I was going through with a broken family," he told the New York Post.

"I'm optimistic that things will get better. Certain things just have to develop into a better place. But I got love for my ex-wife."

During their custody battle, Nas has accused Kelis of keeping his son from him, while Kelis maintained that Nas was inconsistent in the child's life.

Last April she also accused him of beating her during their marriage.

"I remember so clearly when the pictures came out with that whole thing that happened with her and Chris Brown. And the only way I can describe it was like double-dutch. I felt like, 'Do I jump in? Do I say it?' Cause I had bruises all over my body at that time," she said in an interview with Hollywood Unlocked's Jason Lee.

"That day, I remember being in Atlanta sitting in the kitchen, and I wasn't ready to walk."

Nas posted an open letter denying the allegations.

just one month i didnt even realise the years didnt change. some real romeo and juliette all though that would be italy. 6 years deep is nothing i respect only double digits, you can still hide a lot in 6 years from one another.
