I played all the Diablo games, from 1 - 3.
Diablo 2 is the best in my opinion.

people used to play single only because you could hack your character to whatever you want. Also PvPing (killing other people) was easier in early Diablo 2, so people didnt want to get harassed leveling. only 2 reasons to ever play single player.
battle net was just legit playing the game regularly.

back in the day amazons guided arrow was broken. safest bet with necro is skeletons and amp damage
