i think so, rap like where you from nikka. if you from the East Coast then rap like a East Coast nikka. you got cats in NYC that don't claim like Desiigner cause he sounding like a bootleg Future.

If that was the case only dudes from NY would be allowed to rap.
I mean are you gonna tell J. Cole to stop making songs like January 28th?

People live on the internet in 2016, people in Montana can hear of the latest rapper in Atlanta before people in Atlanta.

Hip Hop was better when New York and the East Coast had control of it.

even Hip Hop was better when the West Coast had control of it.

even Uncle Snoop said shyt ain't original no more. NY and West Coast nikkas had flows that made them different from each other. Snoop didn't sound like Ice Cube, Nas didn't sound like Big L. you got nikkas using Migos or Future flow in every song.

There's a huge difference between being influenced by a rapper from another region, and blatantly taking their sound.

Desiigner is blatantly taking their sound.

Why is it bad to be influenced by somebody from a different region? I never understood this. If it gets to the point where you are faking accents and claiming the city then yeah that's too much.

But if I'm from Cali and I grew up loving Outkast, I'm not allowed to flow over southern sounding production? I have to go get Quick because I was born in Cali.

If NY is the qb of hip hop then you cant just take credit for the victories and point the fingers for the losses. NY should be more to blame because regionalism didnt kill hip hop, corporate interest and commercialism did. The mecca shouldve keep parasites like lyhor cohen far away from its creation and protected it better from outsiders.

Its like nothing was learned from cats like ray charles and james brown who created and innovated new sounds and genres but owned their music and therefore had creative control knowing cacs were trying to strong arm.

Straight up NY dropped the ball in that sense because by the time the south got the rock, commercialism had already took over. Bottom line if you own the financial interest then you control the creative direction.

No, I don't believe being influenced by other regions musically is wrong, but when you straight up jack shyt and don't bring nothing from you to the table then it's a problem, at least have it varied up, makes an artist more diverse in most cases anyway. Pac is a good example, had a wide array of influences, worked superbly. K-Rino another 1, Scarface, Jay Z to an extent even though he may have overdone it ultimately. Jay Electronica, quite a few examples, it's good to be varied and knowledgable in different styles, but it's not good to bite and jack shyt without any authenticity.
