No idea.. depends how long I think. If you want to live there I think not

they kinda look down on white people so I imagine us non-whites have it even tougher :yeshrug:

if you're just going as a 'tourist' or 'visitor' I think you'll be fine same as any other country... go to the big cities , do the touristy things etc

As someone who knows basic Japanese and Chinese, I can tell you that you you'll be fine in Tokyo with a basic knowledge of Hiragana and Katakana. Learn Hiragana and Katakana and some basic Characters. There are plenty of English signs and 外人 that will help you around if you ask politely. There are some phrases that you need to learn depending on how long you're staying there. But, you should already know.

Yea, I've been there multiple times and while I can speak coversational Japanese, you'll be fine, like Frosty said, try to learn basic phrases and characters but in the major cities, most educated Japanese can at least speak decent English.

You gotta admire that... over here educated Americans can't even speak decent English.

The train announcements are in both English and Japanese, so there's that. You shouldn't have too much trouble getting around Tokyo at the very least.

Also, the train system there is super clean compared to New York's system. Granted it's not as old, but still. It seems like each station (in Tokyo anyway) is like a mini mall unto itself. :krs:

yes...just say "HAI-YA" and "WA-TA" to whoever you run across.
if you want to get more advanced, throw up the Wu-Tang clan W with your hands.
