There's jealousy and there's common sense.
Jealousy, like fear or anger, is stigmatized as completely negative, but is natural and does serve a logical purpose.
People who are dishonest and running game on you will use the stigma of jealousy to gaslight you and make you believe that you're not seeing what you're seeing.
Of course, jealously can be negative.
Jealously, when unchecked and irrational, is destructive to all involved.
Rational jealousy definitely plays a role in a relationship, and it should.

How I see it, jealousy is self serving as well. At the end of the day, there is a good chance a partner will play off your jealousness to their advantage & may end up leaving you at some point.
There should be a mutual understanding laid down at the beginning of the relationship, so if someone decides to breach said understanding, then at least you know that you or the other person held their end of the understanding and the other person didn't, so you can either work to mend whatever issues that caused the breach or cut your losses, heal and move on with your life.
