Yo, check this... Women rappers historically been rappin' about their p*ssy... rappin' about havin' sex... rappin' about their sexual promiscuity... rappin' about their sexual prowess... Now they rappin' about turnin' men into marks and tricks... That's where we at with women's rap, fam... No way to sugarcoat it... Might be some lesser-known names out there rappin' different, but they ain't holdin' down the mainstream... What I'm sayin' is, mainstream female rappers stay movin' with that root chakra consciousness... That raw energy manifestin' in their bars... That's their stuff... They ain't rappin' from their crown chakra... They ain't rappin' from their heart chakra... Lauryn Hill tho? She different... She spittin' from somewhere higher... Y'all feel me? Who else out there touchin' that vibe, or is she really the only one?

Remember a few years ago they were trying to tell us a female rappers got next right, and that's when we saw the emergence of this new theme of men being marks and tricks within their content

I wonder if any USAID money went into this :jbhmm:

I feel you 'thread-starter' but Lauryn is a known hypocrite.

She has multiple baby daddies and pulls no shows and messing around with peoples foundations. Just wickedness.

Her Chakra was never there or been broken. At least these other women rappers are honest to let you know what they are about and think of men.

She was spitting from being talented but she also had writers and she was a little bit too bitter to have a core of enlightenment.

Her solo LP the miseducation has actually misdirected people from who Lauryn is, or her actions have misdirected people to who she actually is.

She's as a bout that life as the rest of them. In my humble opinion.

I understand what OP is getting at.

Self-aware, introspective, vulnerable when necessary, loving, wise, all those traits exemplified in her music got LH destroyed. Well, that and thinking she could live Disney dreams wid dem Marley yutes. Anybody coulda told her that was a bad idea. She didn't have the right people around her to defend her, she largely wound up just giving up under the onslaught, and it's been a constant battle in her life ever since.

I can't think of a moderately successful woman emcee since whose primary persona wasn't some girl-gangsta dynamic...or now just outright ratchet silliness. This country simply isn't about to allow the machine to present black people with those positive traits. So that well has been thoroughly poisoned.

And before any of you jump up and yell Kendrick...they are going to do their damnedest to destroy him just the same way. Profit on the buildup, and extra profit on the destruction. That's how this place works. If you think the vultures aren't biding their time, you are wide asleep.

Not the only, but in the mainstream? You could say that.

But the root is the foundation. Our sexual energy is our original creative energy so there is divine purpose in expressing the sexuality, it needs to be. The issue with the rap game (as in the industry, the racket) is the lack of balance. Whether it be extremes of sex, violence or materialism, the pendulum never has a chance to rest anywhere in the middle.

The vast majority of the time you're not going to grab attention in a dynamic way without some kind of sex appeal. But once you have the eyes and ears where are you directing them to? And then keep in mind even trying to ride that fence is a risk, but we need some attempts.

There is a middle ground between Sexxy Red and Rhapsody but somebody is going to have to thread the needle to make it marketable.

When Mystic dropped I had hoped she woulda made a bigger impact and shifted some of the perception on what can be successful when it comes to female rappers. She wrote all her own shyt and came from a legendary collective (Digital Underground) and the music was good

She could rap

She could sing

She could blend the two

Even had a lightweight hit that stayed in video and radio rotation and was gaining momentum on the rap/r&b charts for 3 months eventually cracking the top 10

Ultimately the album was not a commercial success by industry standards and she stayed in label purgatory for years before a sophomore album materialized.

Her debut album is a really solid body of work and its interesting to hear rap songs from a female perspective that are written by the female rapping them and not ghostwritten by an obese sexual deviant

Why this sound like Chat GPT

But yea, what do most men rap about? Posturing about being powerful, well women hold power via sex, so the way they flex and reflect what the men do is always going to be projected from their place of power as it should.

When more men in the mainstream rap from a higher bandwidth it'll make it easier for a woman to make similar attempts.
