I've been listening to The Listening title track on repeat the past two days

Really got me thinking

Were the bullshyt rhymes supposed to sound like Ghost on SC

Or Camp Lo?

Or was that just a coincidence?

And the message of that song

The album drops in 2003 and bemoans the current state of hip hop as not being "lyrical" enough. That hooks and beats were the only thing that mattered at that point (that and aluminum shoelaces

) and this was years before monstrosities like Laffy Taffy

Right around the time that Lil Jon was starting to get big

I wonder if they had any idea how bad things would get with trap beats

and "melody"
So who is on that same mentality right now that LB was on? Putting lyrics at the forefront? Openly mocking and criticizing hip hop they think is wack?

We need that again.

Who's picking up the "real hip hop" mantra and running with it

Nowadays if you say "real hip hop" people automatically assume

I guess LB really did have a better chance of blowing up in Switzerland

Also - album is undeniably a classic.
