Meritocracy in outcome is impossible. Access to education is one thing but equality in value is something else.

The government would have to put in artificial limitations to make sure Amazon or Walmart is only as valuable as each other.

Of course it’s a myth. Stacy Abrams is the latest example. She found a legal way to beat the same system that fukked her over, which would see her rise in a meritocracy.

Here she’s vilified, labeled a thief, and the system is changed to ensure the fukkery that’s inherent within remains.

Uncertain grounds
even if you establish an honest meritocracy, people who lose out are still your fellow human. everything should not be hunger games. some measure of common good is important.

Yeah

If there are winners there are losers

As @Shogun said it's a good ideal but it's not really attainable with so many people targeting so few positions. I think it starts with an overhaul of the education system to focus on accentuating the unique strengths of an individual rather than focusing on being well rounded. When it's easier to identify someone's strengths then it's easier for their value to be determined and relative "success" attained.

The downside to this would be that it's possible for people to be pigeonholed early on and all in all may lead to less flexibility switching from career to career..but that is seemingly a problem already as it is. It would just be worse for it to be almost mandated to some degree what someone should study. Cant really do it via aptitude tests etc..and certainly not quotas (ie the country can have 100000 people studying to be a plumber at any given time or some wild shyt like that)
