hmmm throw him against marvin hagler..
jones was gifted athlete, sick reflexes but against a top tier pure boxer, he couldn't do that fancy shyt like that..

the best boxers he faced..hopkins, toney, virgil hill, etc...he beat them pretty clearly..they were top tier...roy is easily the most gifted offensive fighter ive seen in my lifetime

but even he had an off night in his prime which is what montell griffin was for him

Now I think the world of Marvin Hagler...his chin and workrate was fukking amazing. He definitely beat Leonard..2nd best middleweight ever but he would get lit up against Roy Jones...

As for your analysis? He made Toney...undefeated James Toney..an absolute wunderkind of a boxer who was slick and defensive..Roy had him missing and falling into the ropes..all kind of shyt. Absolutely amazing.

Damn that’s hard.

I might have to say so, either him or Pretty Boy Floyd. But damn, that Hagler point is hard to ignore.

Roy.
No...I don't like the Mayweather name being mentioned. Castillo basically outpointed him in his prime...Roy went rounds without getting touched. What he did to Reggie Johnson? Absolutely insane.
What you say about Mayweather..what I always have said, he held up better when they got in their mid 30s of course but Roy put weight on his body to win the heavyweight title and lost that weight in those mid 30s, he didn't hold up. Floyd never put on that kind of weight and lost it..so he had all of his abilities at 36 against a Canelo.

Jones in his prime was the most amazing balance of technical skill & showmanship. He'd be much richer if his prime was during this generation. He could take tune ups just to go viral off of totally embarrassing them.
Michael Jordan was in such awe of this guy in that 1999 ESPN Championship special with Serena, Warren Sapp, and Jeter. Never seen him bow down like that to another athlete.

I just watched the Hagler Leonard fight last night and I scored it 7-5 Leonard

I agree here , Prime RJJ would stick and move round Hagler like Sugar Ray but with faster hands and more power
Interesting score because Hagler controlled the rounds and Leonard got cute with the flurries at the end. That just wasn't enough.

Floyd relied less on athleticism and more on fundamentals than Roy did. Even without the weight yo-yo, if Roy just lost his athletic ability as he aged he was always going to age worse than Floyd did.

Money was more untouchable than PBF. Wrong moniker.

Still, Roy.

He was a genius wonder wonder..he definitely would of held up longer if he didn't play the weight game. He's a very smart boxer but he relied on legendary reflexes to keep his defense...even though Roy has a high IQ and creativity in the ring.

Floyd is a very technically sound boxer....shoulder rolls, not staying in one place, not letting anyone cutting the ring off..all that with his incredible speed and accuracy makes him quite the opponent..even when he got older. Everyone always figured he would hold up well in his 30s though..but prime for prime, his best is no Roy Jones Jr.

That loss of step absolutely destroyed Roy. He went from untouchable to looking like shark food.
