Do people have to let their parents know the ethnicity of a person they are dating?
Dap + ReputationTo your first question: Yes.
To your 2nd question: Yes because while it shouldn't be a dealbreaker, your parents have top choices for you (the top choice always being someone like us). That being said, ethnicity shouldn't necessarily be a dealbreaker
I mean a warning would be nice . You don't want them to say or do something that would embarrass your partner. I have a lot of west coast uncle's (most of them) who brought home white women to holiday gatherings. It'd messed up Convo around the table and insensitive things would often be said about their white wives/girlfriends/partners unconsciously by the parents.Do people have to let their parents know the ethnicity of a person they are dating?
I know your fam was like TFI mean a warning would be nice . You don't want them to say or do something that would embarrass your partner. It also worked in the opposite direction too. Some of the white people were being too white . Like I mean bringing their dogs to a black dinner table and cuddling with them on our chairs. Stuff like this should've been discussed in advance as a cultural problem.
Similarly, I recall have a family road trip in my teens where we stopped by at an uncle's house to nap. This would've been cool, but black people generally make full, homecooked meals for their guests .so my parents were hoping to get a good meal before hitting the road again. But they didn't know my uncle's fiance was white and would eventually serve them crackers and cheese after a 16hr drive .![]()
