Straight brutal killer, ruled out of fear and power. People get out of line, they would be "punished", however a lot of people did not respect him and that eventually led to his downfall

Vs this priest who worked in the same community but got massive respect. He would be able to go anywhere with no fear, spoke with and helped killers, pimps, prostitutes, drug users, fed the poor and helped however he could.

The killer was only respected because of his brutality :scust: and eventually that wore thin

The priest beloved by all society from the people who make society to those in the gutter.

True Story

does respect always translate to be >>> than power

I think you meant "fear" instead of power. Power and Respect are somewhat linked, respect gives you power that you would not have without it:ehh:

i would actually say that respect and fear actually parallel each other... we respect people who we revere.. and of whom we are often weary...

what the priest had seems more like an unconditonal love from the people... which is stronger than respect, fear, power etc...

Power>Respect.

When you have power, people MUST respect you.

However, just because somebody respects you, it doesn't mean they like you. And just because somebody likes you, it doesn't mean they respect you.

respect is a form of power
fear is another
fear can lead to respect, just as integrity, charisma or good deeds can. in a democratic system, power is based on legitimacy and rules.
which form of power is better depends entirely on the environment you find yourself in. if people only respect you out of fear, that will quickly wear thin once you show weakness or somebody stronger turns up. if all your power rests on your community respecting your integrity and good deeds, you may be fukked when you are confronted with a ruthless opponent. if you have no legitimacy and rules, you won't be able to establish a stable system, that's why monarchies used to collapse into wars of succession and why dictatorships collapse once the ruler grows old or dies.

so in essence, this is not a black and white issue, you need different forms of power in different environments and circumstances.

Respect is a form of empowerment, that's why we should give respect to each and empower one another...
