They are so similar

How exactly? Because they’re both slender Black women who sing?

Cause that’s where the similarities end. Aaliyah handled herself with class (despite being involved in scandal, she wasn’t all up in the headlines EVERY DAY on the scandalous tip, AND she didn't openly INVITE fools into her drama/scandal, she kept her life pretty private), Rihanna revels in being an attention-whoring delinquent who likes to start beef with other R&B singers and then blackball them when she's not satisfied with the war of words.

Not to mention "Rihanna" kinda has a similar ring to "Aaliyah" (maybe that's what Rihanna's management was going for.

Not sure how that would be what they were “going for”, that’s both of their NAMES. There have been tons of female singers using just their first name before either one of these two chicks came into the game.

They both caught the attention of JAY, he obviously saw similar traits.

Since Aaliyah got put on by R. Kelly and there’s no documented evidence that Jay had anything to do with either starting or helping to maintain Aaliyah’s career, that statement is misguided. Aaliyah was a star before she even got with Dame and/or Jay. Also, to say she “caught jay’s attention” implies he had anything to do with her success, which is untrue. Otherwise, there’s no relevance in her “catching his attention”….hell, Ne-Yo “caught his attention”, too, and he signed him to Def Jam/Island….does that also count?

Interesting I wonder if Rihanna passed tomorrow if it would leave as big an impact as Aaliyah did.

Rihanna’s impact would be FAR bigger because more teenage white girls (and gay dudes) crush on her than ever did on Aaliyah. Aaliyah never had an “Aaliyah Army” full of weird ass nerds who would be willing to inflict retribution upon anyone who dared defame the object of their stannery. For all her pop success, Aaliyah was far more embraced as an R&B artist than a pop artist, which is 100% what Rihanna is.

If you can't see the similarity, you're dumb

Rihanna is not Rihanna's first name.

JAY and Dame was responsible for the majority of Aaliyah's career

Oh, so you're just a moronic troll, then, and not really trying to engage in a discussion....I see.

My mistake, carry on.

RiRi is killing the charts as far as singles but her albums just don't compare. Aaliyah dropped 3 back to back Classics, IMO, If you don't think his last LP was Classic it's no less than 4 MICS. Her 1st two are certified Classics. Rihanna doesn't have a Classic album. I'd also argue though Rihanna has more #1 hits overall. Aaliyah's singles were better. Vocally it's wash, both have soft and light voices. But Aaliyah's vocals were still better and more angelic.
