Is Season 4 of the Sorpranos like the Season 5 of the Wire?

I'm just now watching the Sorpranos to see what show is GOAT. (The Shield is next). But after watching season 4, I honestly felt like I felt after season 5 of the Wire. Killing off one the best characters, the woman he chose to cheat with. This just felt very underwhelming. Though I did enjoy his trolling in the last episode. ANd him and wife "discussions" in the last ep. was good as well. I can point out good things about Season 5 of the Wire as well. But I still had the same feeling. Is this the general consensus. Or was this considered a great season?

Season 5 of the Wire was fukked from the start because HBO fukked them during the production and told them that they were being cut to only ten episodes instead of the 13 they initially thought they were going to have. Both of these shows probably get a bad rap for their "bad" seasons because the other seasons are so fukking good. I personally didn't have a problem with either of the seasons but IMO they were the lowest spots...but that's not saying much because I could still find a bunch of other shows who have had worst. Weeds for one had a serious, SERIOUS dropoff after season three.

I think a lot of people would say season 4 > season 6.

I would liken season 4 of the Sopranos more to Season 2 of The Wire. Both quite good and crucial to the overall story, but focused on an aspect of the show that the audience was less interested in. The Wire s2 with the docks, the Sopranos s4 was more about Tony's marriage/kids, much less about the gangster shyt regarding both.

Wow, that's depressing about Season 6. If it's like that then I probably won't put it as the GOAT. But we'll see. I like Season 2 of the Wire more though the Season 4 Sorpranos.
