I don't like this thread.
I'll explain why
1. I was thinking about this song before this thread was made. I FEEL robbed and plagiarized when something I think about magically, randomly appears on this message board or any other even though intellectually I KNOW that it's coincidence
2. This was a song on a greatest hits cd. Unless you're Eminem or 2pac those don't get pushed or do all too well. It was for Colombia at a time that Nas was well into his Def Jam run. That greatest hits cd came out the same day as American Gangster (the Jay z album) and I know because I bought both from FYE that same day. No way was anyone going to push this as a big single.
3. It was a retrospective, reflective account of his career basically. It almost has a "I'm ready to retire" old person reminiscing type feel to it. It actually has kind of a subtle sad feel to it.
4. I feel Nas has plenty of other tracks like this. Hell LRNA chronicles Illmatic, the formation of the firm, his commercial rise, his relationship with Biggie and Wu Tang, his mom's health situation and more. When surviving the times to me was more Nas recalling the days of being a Rakim stan, getting a record deal, his rejection, final acceptance and completing the deal.
5. Nas has way too many great songs.
