Is the lack of gyms in Black areas the reason why you don't have as many black heavy weights these days? Or is it the promotion of other sports like football and basketball?

What's the deal here?

its not lack of gyms in black areas....its lack of gyms period..with regards to other sports....boxing is not a sport where you are instantly rich..there are a few exceptions to the rule...if you get drafted into the NBA or NFL you pretty much are earning high six figs or even 7 instantly...that is not the case in boxing....and yes football and basketball are marketed better in those aspects on top of it

Nah it isnt lack of gyms, its that boxing is no longer an avenue used to push kids towards to achieve money and fame in the us. Take the very dirty nature of the sport the health risks, why box when you can get more money quicker playing basketball or football

Yeah but it's way harder to get into the NFL or NBA that it is into boxing. Basically it's a matter of you having a desire, showing up at the gym and possibly finding somebody that's willing to train you. Have a natural talent for fighting helps of course but you have to be in the top 1% to even have a chance to get in the NBA or NFL. I'm noticing in a lot of black areas you don't have as many gyms as you may have had in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Of course I could be wrong

Now this is exactly what I was thinking. People have seen how Muhammad Ali turned out and they know what box you can do to you. I think black people rather become rappers today then be boxers like they might have tried to become years ago.

Boxing doesn't provide scholarships like these other sports do. Could also be that they don't have someone to look up to...the rivalries between Ali, Fraizer and Foreman etc in the 70s inspired many to start boxing.

Not enough fukking boxing gyms and they're usually spread out like fukking dragon balls

Nowadays you have these mma/boxing/kickboxing hybrid gyms where the focus is all over the place.

and boxing as a whole isn't marketed and promoted enough to bring in new talent. Most of the top boxers been fighting once or twice a year for the last 10 years and super fights take 3-5 years to make. Plus most of the big fights are in NY,Vegas, and Cali. Back in the 90's, you had the big names fighting all over the country.

All that shyt definitely effects it's growth.

:ohhh: and I noticed a lot of those MMA gyms are very pricey to. It's kind of like they trying to keep a certain demographic out if you can't afford to go I think you know I'm going with this:mjpls:

I wonder why they are more fights in places like Florida? Because a lot of good Fighters have come out of the Sunshine State

I know exactly what you mean breh. and then the thing is you can't just go in there anytime to work out. Everything is revolved around classes for beginners which is off putting to the intermediate cats who have boxed before and just want somewhere to work out.

I think its because nobody used Florida to become a major attraction like how a Wilder and Bud can draw crowds and numbers in there hometowns. Florida cats might have one fight down here and that's it or they'll fight locally when they small time and never come back....Top level boxers come here to train but nobody wants to fight down here which is crazy since the nightlife is lit.
