Don't no... But I was just thinking about this movie the other day and the part when DMX is front of Nas' house and says "What? Muthafukka I'm the front right now and I'ma start blowing the horn in a minute"

That part always had me rollin:mjlol:

:wow:

Can't believe people hyped Moonlights cinematography as if it was on this level :hhh:

Now that I think about it there hasn't really been a movie shot like this since this.

I'm meh on the cinematography in Belly. Hype just shot a 2 hour music video and called it a movie...:manny:

New Jack City is amazing on all fronts however...

Thats the point though. Thats what made Belly unique. If they shot Belly like any other crime movie it would be a horrible film.

We can agree on that...I just found it to be unnecessarily jarring. :manny:

Most people went to see the film off the strength of the visuals. I remember when it came out my sister went to the movies to see it and was pretty much like the movie wasnt good acting wise but it looked good.

Most people seem to be on the fence about whether the film is good or bad.

I agree, never understood how BLACK critics hated on this movie.

The Acting is very on par, especially since nas and dmx, and everyone WHERE NOT ACTORS

The lighting is spectacular

The Mood in each scene was palpable

This is Hype williams Magnum Opus, and low key set the standard for young black cinema

Critics pan anything. Nas & T boz sucked but DMX did a good job and everyone else was solid.

That said black movies actually regressed imo style wise. Belly and Spike's films were the main things I can think of that really broke ground on cinemetography. All those black movies from like 98 to 2003 all look like the same movie (all those movies with Morris chestnut,Shemar Moore or Taye diggs).

But now that i think about it while we can argue sterotypes, black crime dramas tend to be good as hell (New Jack city, Paid in Full, Belly debatable). Interesting we dont see many of these anymore, not sure if this is a good or bad thing though.

That's pretty much the reason. I get why they were casted but you can't say your car is "fixed" because you took it to a eye doctor and he got it to run for a bit.

The acting was serviceable in some parts and down right horrendous in others. Like I said, I get why people like it, especially visually, I just thought as a film the visuals were there to hide a really horrid film.
