I won't suggest anything about respectability politics, and I won't tell anyone to hold their tongues. We need truth-tellers and people who aren't afraid to bring certain conversations to the mainstream to push narratives that benefit us.
But you know who I think is fukking it up?
The smug loud ones.
Theres a difference between Corey Holcomb, and...say your random twitter "super woke" intersectional critical race-theorist blah blah blah
See, when I hear Corey talk, its always about equality and fairness. Corey rarely talks about black supremacy though. Thats something I think that gets lost. Tariq too.
Yet, sometimes when you hear some of these super woke types, its like they're so steeped in the "awareness" they're just actively aiming to shyt on everyone to the point where jokes about "white tears" ultimately backfire.
White people are definitely waking up to what they feel is a double standard. And I think what hurts the people who are sincere about improving race relations is their inability to have non-emotional dialog. These critical-race-theory types are WAY too emotional to represent us sometimes. This doesn't help anyone when you're talking to white audiences and they use that emotion to empower themselves to stifle any advances we might have gained in the public sphere.
This is the problem with letting "certain types" lead the Black Lives Matter movement IMO. The problem isn't that BLM exists, its that the leaders are not really rooted in advancement from a stoic mind. They're interested more in being flashy and annoying. They're not interested in political engagement or the hard work of infrastructural reform.
It all comes off like one big performance piece. Dancing? Singing? Chants? Its like they want hugs and praise, not to do actual business.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not a conservative. I'm definitely a liberal person, but a lot of the ultra-liberals are fukking it up with this desire to just keep prodding the low-hanging fruit. Theres a difference between having your rainbow hair and catch-phrases...and showing up with a team of people who are well researched, unemotional, and have paperwork and policy to discuss. And they're not dressed like clowns.
Theres guys out here who are building businesses, getting advanced degrees, hiring others, etc. who really have more of a long-view and invested stake in changing the plight of black people in this country. And it seems they get flooded out by flamboyant types with catchy slogans, colorful t-shirts, and social media slang. The latter seems to just trigger white people, ironically.
I like the show Black-ish...I love it actually. Its hilarious to me. But then I always wonder...are we poking the bear here? I mean, theres one thing to push for equality of representation, but is this the BEST way to do it? Do we have to be so overt? Cause we all know they won't hesitate to snatch this shyt up the moment it all goes wrong.
I had to realize this when people were so surprised by the arrival of the Alt-Right into the mainstream. Theres a silent majority out here who will eat lunch with you, buy your round of beers, and even let your kids play together...and they will still support guys like Richard Spencer, or Milo, or stefan molyneux, or Gavin mcinnes with views on their youtube pages, podcasts, and social media follows.
Theres a give and take to this. We move 3 steps to the left, they try and move 5 to the right.
Is there a way to move more silently?
I say this to say...if we're 12% of the population, theres ultimately a way to over-play your hand if you're not smart enough to tailor and temper some of the talking points we use to advance our plight.
Everyone thinks that having a voice is enough. Its not. And frankly, we gotta tell a lot of these arrogant over-woke types to relax. They're fukking it up for those really trying to make waves out here.
If you see how the democrats are treating the post-election land-scape, they're leaving "identity politics" behind because they remember that theres still a majority of people who ultimately feel they weren't catered to.
If we want to be catered to, we're gonna have to leave some of these people who are more interested in play-time alone.
I'm not saying to vote republican (I could probably never do it...they're just fukking awful people) but I'm saying that we gotta stop elevating some of these boisterous "woke-for-the-moment" types.
They're annoying us with their cringeworthy hot-takes on blogs, their stupid twitter threads, and their half-assed social reform initiatives.
White supremacy is chess and a lot of people are treating this shyt like minesweeper.
