Is There a National Furniture Shortage?

I just moved yesterday, and decided to get some new stuff since I havent bought new furniture in a while.

Everywhere I look from Ikea to big warehouse style stores seem to not consistently have complete sets.
Items out of stock for months.
Entire sets where half of the items are out of stock and on back order.
Delivery only available 2 or 3 days out of the month, with a 12 hour delivery window with no explanation.
Assembly not able to be booked until after purchase, and even then its not guaranteed.

WTF is going on out here?
Have I just been living under a rock since I wasnt looking to buy?
How long has it been like this?

my guess is since the initial shortage in lumber last year contributed to a rise in construction costs, that also affected furniture manufacturers competing for the same thing.

Yeah I just bought a new house in May and a lot of things I was looking for had a delivery date set 3 or 4 months out.

Yes. A girl I know ordered a new pullout sofa back in April and is just now estimated to get it at the end of this month

Yes and it's been going on for a while now and it's gotten worse. If you haven't been looking for furniture you wouldn't know. Was looking for a new couch last January and everywhere I went there was a three month wait.

My younger sibling works in sales and he told me it’s been a problem since late last year with furniture on back order for months.

Yes....the materials and supply chain is all fukked up.

From supplies to manufacturing facilities behind on orders to shipping delays bc of ports, labor problems and even shortage of shipping containers. All exacerbated by incredible demand due to WFH and home sales.
