Is there any point in negotiating a price on used cars? What's the best way to negotiate?

I'm not buying now, just doing research. Looking at slightly used Scat Packs and a lot of em are still on the high side, like $37,000 and I don't want to pay that much. At the same time, I'm reading sources saying it's impossible to negotiate on a used car these days because they're priced competitively. I also thought of going to a Credit Union to get a car loan and just giving the dealership a check.

Am i better off just buying new? Them bytches $42k new

You can always negotiate but it's usually easier to get a good deal on a new car vs a used car at the dealer.

Last two new car deals I was involved in (buying) went for 800 and 1600 behind invoice. New cars have rebates and factory sales incentives; used cars don't.
:manny:

When I used to sell rides I'd always look at folks tryna get a user like :shaq:.

If the sticker is $42K new I'd prolly get it for at maybe 40 flat; if there's any type of customer cash or incentives or invoice sales (which may be less common for Scat Packs than other models) it's pretty much a wash, except the APR will be lower on a new car (cheaper to finance new vs used) and the factory warranty will run longer.

best negotiation tactic is to have a price in your head, and money in your hand and only pay that price, so lets say you want to pay $30k for the car. Get your $30k , go to the dealer point the car out, tell them this all you got and you either leave here with the car and no money or with your money its up to hem.

Going thru similar cause my wife want a lexus rx and them bytches barely drop in price on the used market.
We went to the dealer last weekend and ALL the sell bays were packed with ppl copping :dead:
The salesmen was nice but they clearly weren't pressed or desperate for business. I'ma wait till december to remember and cross my fingers that maybe i can get a 2020 for low 40s when the 2021 drop

I bought my TL like this(cash)

Sticker price was 6500, with taxes/fees, close to 7. I walked in there with a chase envelope, told the sales guy I got 6400 to spend and I want that car

drove off the lot 40 minutes later

Not saying this doesn't work, but it's not necessarily the way to get the best price on a ride. But it can definitely work, especially if you've never bought a ride or cut a deal before.

Some people get nervous tryna make a deal and some folks are just bad negotiators, so I get it. My boy tried to play hardball at the dealer but ain't have no paid off trade, cash down, or credit to bully with.
