Is there any realism behind Measurements and their accuracy?

I was talking to someone in TLR and he said that "measurements are real", and I replied with

"I disagree. The concept of putting something underneath standards, while the standards are underneath no standards makes no sense to me.

1 second is under a standard of 60 seconds. A day, a week. A month a quarter, a quarter a year. And a year to a decade. Do you follow me? I can go on and on, but there is nothing to standardized everything. If there is nothing to standardize everything then the standards themselves cannot be real, -They're idealistic, but they're not real.- because standards need standards to exist and nature has no standards, it's just is itself.

So in my opinion measurements are a conceptualization and a combination between nature and things relative to the human life (time, weight, height, length, etc) to help us understand life better, but they're by no means real and concrete, they're just ideas."

I feel like we have measurements to help us understand, but they aren't something that's real, they're just conceptualized and if anything, if there is a way to live without them then life might be wonderful or worthless (the worth of something is a measurement itself, see how it arises a feeling when you deem something 'worthless').

Anyway, what are your opinions on this?

So launching a missile and it can hit a target 6,000 miles away is what?. Is that not measurement?
Its a measurement, but what is a measurement? Nothing empirical, therefore how is it real? There's no realism, its just an assumption

Quit getting Jaden Smith on me.

Assumption of what?

:dahell: are you saying?
:dead: ffs.

Its an assumption of convenience, that's why you can measure in miles or kilometers, and there were previous measurements as well, for distance and weight.

I'm saying that human beings conceptualize things to give life meaning, if we never grew up with these constraints life might be better or it might be worse, but the fact remains that these "measurements" are nothing other than assumptions and don't exactly exist.

Time doesn't exist, its another measurement. Distance doesn't exist. Hell, numbers don't exist either and neither does words. They're just another form of conceptualization for the sake of being able to describe things and to communicate.

Am I making sense?

Dude .. Relax .. Just enjoy life. Words and numbers are useful to our everyday life .. You just said we use them to be able to describe things and communicate .. That's all there is to it

You're right :snoop: its just a realization. You don't come to terms with things? I do need to enjoy life though thanks

First time in the higher learning section and I'm presented with this. Back to TLR. lol I do understand your point, but in my opinion, you are looking into things too deeply. It's like wondering why we classify colors, etc. They are simply there as tools to help us, nothing more. Measurements greatly benefit us too.
