You can face guard in college though..

I know, I guess I'm just disgusted by the lack of ball skills these guys are displaying. But like others have said maybe its all the new rules that are in favor of the offense that are hampering these guys and making them look supbar when compared to past players

Its not rules...its that 'looking back for the ball' is a fairly advanced skillset that CBs develop later in their career...if you watch a cb progress through four years you see true standouts do it reguarly as seniors and other guys...not

Its the difference between Leon Hall (bengals) and JT Floyd (arby's)

Yea i feel you, you just have to kinda put yourself in a coaches shoes. Its not illegal, you may warn the kid against doing it because a penalty MIGHT happen, but if thats what he feels comfortable doing why fight to change it?

Yeah I feel you, and to be honest I'm not expecting college guys to be polished but for some reason I feel like like CB play was better 5-10 years ago. Maybe its just nostalgia of some sort

Nah I wasn't referring to cb's and wr's in general, but more these CB's with elite tools getting beat by receivers with middle of the road athleticism because they lack technique.

Guys like Revis, Deion, etc......they're able back pedal fast enough then straddle for just a bit, before needing to turn their back to the ball to get a good speed going. And when they do, they have quick enough hip movement to do it all in one motion and look back for the ball.

The lesser skilled CB will often play 10-12 yards off the receiver before the snap and play it in front of them. But if the receiver beaats them deep on a post they still may not get their head around in time.

Its just plain fear breh, i played corner for 3 years in highschool and ill tell your first that you have to be able to keep your cool in those long ball situations. The natural tendency is to panic, you can tell the special ones are the guys who can keep calm and focus in those situations.

Also the rules are so slanted towards offense nowadays that its really almost not fair to play CB anymore :to:

it's not just fear, it's also lack of conceptualizing the play as it's progressing..... there is supposed to be a clock in your head that tells you that you need to look back after a certain point cause the WR is still running at full speed, or just slowed down slightly as if he's positioning himself to catch a ball.

most dudes are just so fixated on not getting beat, that they disregard all the other shyt ( positioning/funneling/simply n turning your head) that will allow them to make the play.

Nah the worst is when they can get the pick...but go for the tip instead
:wtf: the rule of thumb is if you arent 100% sure you can get a pick, you tip it.

dumb gambling CBs who go for picks instead of defending the pass were part of the reason why the league is arena football status now....they were called 'playmakers' and got invested in with a lot of money...yet they lacked consistent coverage so QBs feast on them

most of them were inconsistent as fukk and their way of getting turnovers was as un-football-fundamental as it comes.
