So how come the Steve Nash Suns never beat the Spurs?
How come the Carmelo led Nuggets never went to the Finals?

And how come the Don Nelson coached teams never went to the Finals?

The Suns was bad luck, imo. Joe Johnson missed three games in 2004 Western Conference Finals, and those games were all close.

Carmelo's teams were never great offensively.

And Don Nelson's teams were never talented enough to win an NBA title.

Best teams have great offenses and very good to great defenses. But the Nets may show that a no-defense team can win it all.

The thing with the "defensive team" trope is that those teams typically we're average to struggling at scoring so HAD to be great defensively. Today you cannot go far if you struggle to score. It's a big reason why (other than health) the Lakers were so vulnerable and lost. You don't win being bottom 1/3rd in offense.

Those teams were all bottom of the league defensively, if you're great offensively and about middle of the pack on D you're good. But the Suns had a shot in 07 till Nash got his nose busted. And like breh said the Warriors had nowhere near the talent to contend.

I would say Knicks defense was better than their offense, Hawks highest score was 113 in the entire series vs Knicks, which is pretty good in this era defensively
