the evils of truth, and love
Kathy says she recently found out her 17-year-old daughter, Molly, was prostituting herself, after discovering an online sex advertisement with the teen’s photo attached to it. “A friend of Molly’s sent me a message on Facebook, letting me know that Molly was being recruited to start an escort service,” she says. Kathy believes a male friend pressured Molly into prostitution.

“I was struggling with money, and I needed to get out of my parents’ house,” Molly explains. She says her friend, whom she met at a rave, brought up the idea of her becoming an escort. After deciding to go through with it, she says she went by the name “Candie,” and charged $200 for a half hour and $300 for a full hour. Kathy says she started tracking her daughter’s phone and ultimately found her and her friend at a motel. She says she called police and had Molly’s alleged pimp arrested.

“That * everything up,” Molly says of the arrest. “We had plans to make more money, and how are you supposed to do that when your partner is in jail?” She says she was only a prostitute for one week.

Kathy says she has filed a restraining order to keep Molly’s alleged pimp away from her daughter — but both he and Molly have violated the order, twice resulting in his arrest. “I couldn’t let go of him,” Molly says. “I didn’t want to

Molly’s dad, Mark, joins via Polycom and says that he didn’t punish his daughter for prostituting herself, but he did tell her not to do it again. “I’m trying to reach her,” he says. “Punishment is one thing, but I’m trying to reach her and bring her back. I’m trying to bring my daughter back from this personal hell that she’s in.”

Dr. Feel asks Mark what his strategy is for bringing Molly back, and he admits, “I really don’t have a master plan. I don’t think anyone could have a master plan or a road map.”

“I would suggest a master plan, actually,” Dr. Feel tells Mark. “I would hope that maybe we could all work together to come up with a plan.”

“I wish I hadn’t been so vulnerable the night that I met him."

Live your own life
Molly is jaded and allured by her illicit profession. The lifestyle of prostitution pays her well. Once a chick falls deep in that kind of life, it will be difficult for her to grow out of it and escape it; as a result, that heffa forever going to be a hoe. That b!tch can't be saved. Byatch made her decision to live a whore's life; therefore, she isn't a victim

that's kind of hard to tell (if she's a victim) just from that small story. usually when you're establishing if someone's a victim, that means you need to establish blame, which means you need more of a back story. like, why was she trying to get money to run away from home? was there problems there? you just need more information.

but what really shocks me is her lack of shame after being busted. instead of reacting like most people with a moral conscious do, she starts talking about (or at least the article highlights it) how that bust made her lose out on more money. to me, that means something's not working right in her head, considering she was only a prostitute for a week. prostitution really isn't a field women willingly slip into. there's usually some catalyst...

I agree with the bolded part but not the rest.

She's a prostitute, she's considered an adult where I live :yeshrug: She's old enough to make that decision, even though I don't agree with it and believe prostitution should remain illegal. But nothing good will come from it.

She IS a victim, but she's a victim of a system that made her this way--ie the economy, sexism, gender roles, etc. That stuff I don't feel like getting into, as I've had too many feminist debates on that kind of stuff. Considering pimps brainwash their women, basically, how can you not call her a victim both directly and indirectly?

If she were a free agent it might be a different case, although she would still be an indirect victim.

Either way, since this is on dr. phil, I'd say as a counselor I would probably try to help her see more insight as to why she chose the profession, and while you aren't supposed to press your opinion, I would definitely want to help her get out of it and find a mainstream job.

Why would she be a victim? As far as I know she wasn't outright coerced into her profession, just persuaded into it. A 17 year old girl isn't expected to be independently wealthy. She wasn't supporting a struggling family as far as we know. With all of that said, I don't judge her. She wants to put herself to work in the world's oldest profession and she's being honest with what she wants from men and gets it. And she gives them what they want. It's all gravy. Nobody was hurting her and she wasn't hurting anyone else.

C'mon, brough...

why does a prostitizzle get a "product of my environment" card, while pimps and low-level drug hustlers don't?

And there are pimps who get hoes hooked on drugs, but the lions' share of pimps aren't "brainwashing" hoes.

Still, I don't think the pimp made her go to that rave, either...

Where did I say that pimps weren't victims either?
How the hell did they get into that job in the first place? Not because he was raised in a world where the odds were stacked for him. I wouldn't be shocked if many pimps are abused somehow as children.

People swear its easy peezy just brainwashing a hoe. shyts hard as fukk...I been trying to master it for years (not for pimping purposes  ) and yeah once I put that D in her lap, she dont know how to act. But up until that point its still a struggle.

I dunno about Molly tho. She 17 so its not like she's a child (regardless of what the fukked up laws are in the US). Yeah shes a victim in the sense that we're all victims at one point or another. If I were her parents I'd give her a few options...but if she chose to be a hoe then I'd cut the bytch loose. Its really unfortunate she got that pimp caught up like that tho. We dont even know if he was a pimp what if he's just a nikka w/ a craigslist account? He might have been just trying to help her out and make a couple dollars for himself but Mollys mama keeps gettin him thrown in jail.
