only song i MIGHT be tryna hear with this is this one. what songs were better than TROY?
Straighten it out had a better beat. Lyrics on both were hot. Troy is a great song, and when you hear it those horns grab you, but when that came out, we all didn't buy the album immediately, (summer of 92, I was 15), we didn't have cash like that. We shared full cassette albums and vinyl back then. So when straighten it out was released, a lot of people(not everyone) thought that beat was better. The consensus is that Troy is the best song Pete Rock/CL Smooth ever made and MECCA is their best album. I'm a hardcore Pete rock fan. He's had ton of beats better than Troy. Beats that most of the average fan have never even heard. The thing I loved about Primo and Pete Rock is that they'd give an ordinary rapper that no one knows like a Troy Slugs or Hannibal some fire that they'd give to a Nas or Jay Z. It's a very unpopular opinion. I eventually got a dub of the album after Straighten it out was released, and eventually a cassette copy and cd(that I still have today).
For example, one of Jay's most notable songs is Hard Knock Life. Would you say that song is better than even half of Reasonable Doubt, that no one in the media ever discusses?
