Is Wayne Gretzky being the GOAT in hockey the closest thing to consensus in all of sports?

Generally everything in sports can be argued, hence 99 percent of the threads in the Coli. Is Kobe better than MJ? Some people will point to MJ never having an 80pt game as evidence of Kobe being a superior scorer. What is the best single season performance in MLB history? Is it Bonds hitting 73 hrs or maybe one of Trouts 10+ WAR seasons. Hell maybe it's Cy Young winning 30+ games in a season. You get my drift, everything is arguable.

But one thing that doesn't seem to be arguable at all from any angle unless someone is purposely trying to play devil's advocate: Gretzky is the GOAT in hockey.

What are some other things you feel may be consensus across sports?

As far as the 4 major sports in america, yes.

There are people who want to argue that Lemieux at his prime was maybe just as good. But Gretzky is the GOAT of hockey.

The next closest would be Ruth in baseball. But too many people now try to bash him because of integration and because the game has changed so much since the 1920s.

gretzky is hockey goat. he did for that sport what mj did for basketball.

that said, his goatness is questioned in the same way mj's is, but outside of diehard stans or contrarians the consensus is locked in.

Goatganda the pearl of Africa
His damn nickname is the great one

Dude retired and was put in the hof right away

his number is retired all across the nhl

Crazy thing is he was undersized at 170lb and wasn’t the greatest skater but his vision is something outside of this world

Take away all his goals and he would still have the most points ever

Even old and washed up with a arthritic back he still put up 62 points in 70 games in his final season

Lemieux without cigarettes and cancer might have given him a run for his money but

Lemieux in his prime was as good...Going by the numbers Lemieux is the only one in history on par with Gretzky's PPG....
