Is what Kyrie is doing with the Celtics really that special?”

So I’ve been thinking about it Isaiah Thomas had a very similar year last year. 1st in the east, great PPG, even beat the warriors. The eye test tells me Irving is a bit better, but even if what Thomas did was less fancy they both scored well (I think Thomas was more efficient too. Which is offset by the fact that Kyrie is relevant on defense this year. Other things that stay consistent is the system. IE: scoring PG and elite level defense from every other position. Basically I’m trying to wonder why what’s going on with Kyrie and the Celtics are more special than last year. Also yes Kyrie was AMAZING last night what a game. :whew:

IT had more than 1 year in that system tho, the Celtics haven’t even peaked yet. They’d be the best team in the NBA with Hayward and either Brown or Tatum coming off the bench.

Kyrie is starting to heat up. :wow:

If I’m Cleveland I avoid Boston like the plaque

I feel you, but brads 2nd year coaching in the nba was Isaiah’s first year they were together brad probably learned along the way as well. If Kyrie pulls off stats/contributes more than it on the offense end to it’ll be crazy! Tbh the cavs are much worse without IT being the proper replacement for Kyrie(if he ever gets there). But I feel like the defensive young guards can bug and bother gsw, but as shown last year bron was to strong for their defense to stop him, so i kinda think the match up is bad for them. Depends on how playoff bron and the cavs come together .

Yeah. Kyrie has matured a lot and playing with a Lebron has taught him how to control the tempo of the game much better.

His (And Curry's) biggest strength is how quick he can attack off catches and how his ability/willingness to move off ball is what separates them from yesteryear scorers (Like Lebron, Melo, or Kobe who like to kill from the stand still and let defenses get set).

Those guys NEVER let their defenders stand still and rest, they never let them get set in their stance, and it makes them so hard to guard. They force defenders to make multiple rapid fire calculations in their head and then commit to one or punish instinctual defense with misdirection.

Curry and Kyrie are masters at misdirection.

I like the points you are making, but I never asked if Kyrie is special, that’s obvious. Just if this team is genuinely doing more than last year
